On Wednesday, just before 5:00 P.M., officers from the Sulphur Springs Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Main Street for a follow-up investigation. The Greenville Police Department had been searching for a driver and a pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run crash. In that incident, the driver had ran a stop sign and was at-fault.
Upon arrival, officers observed Abelardo Sanchez-Cabrera exiting a Chevrolet pickup truck in front of the residence. They approached Sanchez-Cabrera, and with the help of another officer acting as a Spanish translator, explained the reason for their contact. While speaking with Sanchez-Cabrera, the officers relayed his identifying information to the dispatch.
Dispatch later informed the officers that Sanchez-Cabrera had active arrest warrants issued by Sulphur Springs authorities. Consequently, Sanchez-Cabrera was taken into custody, thoroughly searched, and transported to the Hopkins County Jail.
Abelardo Sanchez-Cabrera, 53, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, was booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center on charges of Fail to Yield at Stop Intersection and Open Container.
