Scam Alert: Greenville Police Warns Residents of Impersonation Scheme

The Greenville Police Department has issued a scam alert following reports of fraudulent activity targeting residents. Authorities have received complaints regarding individuals posing as police officials, claiming to be assigned to Homeland Security.

These scammers employ real names and telephone numbers of legitimate police officials, creating an appearance of authenticity. However, the information used by these impostors can easily be obtained through publicly accessible sources such as social media platforms or department websites.

According to reports, the perpetrators contact victims and falsely accuse them of engaging in illegal activities, such as narcotics trafficking. They threaten victims with criminal charges unless they provide sensitive personal information, such as bank or credit card details.

It is emphasized that neither the Greenville Police Department nor any affiliated agencies engage in such practices. Law enforcement officers do not solicit private financial information from individuals over the phone.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and cautious when receiving unsolicited calls from individuals claiming to be police officers or associated with Homeland Security. Any attempt to obtain sensitive financial information under such pretenses is likely a scam.
