New Jersey Man Arrested for Large Amount of Cocaine During I-30 Stop

Joel E. Pacheco-Brizuela

On Friday afternoon, a routine traffic stop on IH30 led to the arrest of Joel E. Pacheco-Brizuela, 30, of Paterson, New Jersey. Deputy Davis from Hopkins County observed Pacheco-Brizuela driving his Toyota Corolla in the left lane without passing any vehicles a few minutes before 2:00 P.M.

Following the stop, Deputy Davis requested permission to search Pacheco-Brizuela's vehicle, which was granted. During the search, Deputy Davis discovered a Love's coffee cup inside the driver's side door containing two plastic baggies wrapped in tin foil. Upon inspection, Deputy Davis found a white powder substance suspected to be cocaine.

After being read his Miranda warning, Pacheco-Brizuela admitted to the substance being cocaine. Subsequently, he was arrested and taken to the HCSO Jail. Upon returning to the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, the suspected cocaine was field tested and confirmed positive. The substance, including its packaging, weighed 57.78 grams.

Pacheco-Brizuela was booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center on charges of possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 1, between 4 and 200 grams.
