Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation earlier this year following reports of stolen luxury cars in Hopkins County, Texas. Everett Jennings was identified as a suspect during the initial probe and subsequently arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Since then, investigators have been hard at work uncovering further evidence, including witness tampering, online impersonation, and the sale of stolen property using stolen identities. Recently executed search warrants led to the discovery of two stolen UTVs and trailers, all with altered identification numbers, confirming their stolen status. These items were traced back to thefts across North Texas, including Sulphur Springs.
In a surprising turn of events, monitoring of Jennings' court-ordered GPS revealed suspicious activity, with multiple alerts indicating tampering with the device. Investigations led authorities to a cruise ship terminal in Galveston, Texas, where Jennings' vehicle was located. Subsequently, arrest warrants were issued due to the newfound information, with the bond set at over $2 million.
Jennings was apprehended upon his return to the port on a cruise ship and is currently detained at Galveston County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing, with Texas Rangers also obtaining an arrest warrant for witness tampering.
