On March 24, 2024 at around 3:48 PM, a routine patrol by a DPS Trooper in Hopkins County led to a traffic stop on a Dodge Charger for violations on IH-30 near MM 127. The driver, identified as Devonte Deshun Roby, was accompanied by his 4-year-old son.
During the stop, the trooper detected the odor of marijuana from the vehicle and observed signs of intoxication in Roby. A check revealed Roby had an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear from Nevada County, Arkansas Sheriff's Office.
Further investigation led to the discovery of a large sum of money in Roby's possession, alongside narcotics including marijuana, methamphetamine, and ecstasy. Roby was subjected to sobriety tests, which led to the belief that he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Roby was arrested for DWI with a child passenger and the outstanding warrant. A blood sample was obtained at Christus Mother Frances Hospital after Roby refused to provide one voluntarily.
During an interview with DPS Special Agents, Roby confessed to past involvement in narcotics dealings. However, he denied consent to search his cellphone, fearing incriminating evidence would be found. The currency found with Roby was seized by DPS Special Agents for further investigation.
Roby faces charges including DWI with a child passenger, drug possession, money laundering and a failure to appear warrant out of Nevada and Arkansas. He was booked into Hopkins County Jail.
