The City of Greenville has announced the appointment of Chris Harris as its new Public Works Director. With over twenty-four years of experience in public works, Harris brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role.
Having begun his career in public works as a Crew Leader in 2000, Harris has held various positions within the department, including Public Works Crew Leader, Municipal Service Manager, Parks Manager, and Public Works Director. His most recent role was with the City of McKinney.
Harris holds an Associate of Applied Science in Electrical Technology from Vatterott College Berkeley in St. Louis, Missouri. He has also earned certifications from the American Public Works Association, Construction Inspection Certification, and the Department of Agriculture Pesticide License in the State of Missouri. Additionally, he possesses a Texas Class A CDL and National Incident Management System certifications.
Beyond his professional achievements, Harris has a passion for community involvement, having coached youth football for over twenty years in St. Louis. He is also known for his dedication to physical fitness, having been named Mr. Missouri in 2013 and 2014 for All-Natural Bodybuilding. Harris's commitment to fitness and healthy living extends to his daily routine, starting at 4:00 a.m. in the gym, which he believes enhances his performance in both his personal and professional life.
Expressing confidence in Harris's ability to lead the department, city officials noted his attributes of encouragement, strength, compassion, and leadership. Harris is set to commence his duties with the city on April 1, 2024.
