Couple Arrested for Meth Possession in Vehicle with Three Children in Como

Joseph Dodson and Renee Dodson

Hopkins County Deputy conducted a traffic stop in Como, Texas, on Lafayette Street, on March 21, 2024. The deputy noticed a Ford Fusion parked at the end of Lafayette Street, leading to City of Como property. The vehicle, originating from Gilmer, TX, raised suspicion due to the early hour and location. Upon approaching, the deputy discovered the driver had an active Parole warrant and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.

After the driver refused a vehicle search, the deputy requested the female passenger and her three children to exit. With the assistance of a K-9 unit, deputies found a glass pipe commonly used for methamphetamine in the glove box. A crystal-like substance, suspected to be methamphetamine, was discovered in the center console.

Both the driver, Joseph Dalton Dodson, and passenger, Renee Leigh Dodson, were arrested and taken to Hopkins County Jail. The children were placed with a family friend, as per Child Protective Services. Subsequent tests confirmed the substance as methamphetamine, weighing approximately 4.223 grams. Joseph and Renee Dodson face charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Meth) and three counts of Endangering a Child. Joseph Dodson faces an additional charge of Violation of Parole.
