Driver Arrested for DWI After Crash at Hopkins County Rest Area

Manuel Martinez-Trejo

On Sunday morning, a DPS trooper responded to a collision at the Hopkins County Rest Area on the eastbound side of IH-30 near mile marker 114. A black Ram pickup with Arkansas plates had struck two decorative boulders on the grassy shoulder and had become disabled in the roadway leading to the rest area parking lot.

The trooper spoke with a responding Hopkins County Deputy, who stated that Manuel Martinez-Trejo was the driver of the black pickup and had been at one of the rest area buildings when he found him. Martinez-Trejo admitted to being the driver, expressing frustration over his truck being totaled.

The trooper conducted a series of inquiries, including Martinez-Trejo's alcohol consumption. Martinez-Trejo admitted to having consumed eight beers starting between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Saturday. Martinez-Trejo confirmed his last drink was before driving from his family's house in Clarksville. The trooper noted an odor of alcohol and observed red, watery eyes on Martinez-Trejo.

After visual checks for nystagmus and administering field sobriety tests, Dobbs observed several indicators of impairment, leading to Martinez-Trejo admitting he shouldn't be driving. Subsequently, Martinez-Trejo was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and other related charges.

Martinez-Trejo refused to provide a blood specimen, but a warrant was issued for the blood draw to confirm he was drunk.

Martinez-Trejo faces charges including DWI Intoxicated, Driving Without a Valid License, and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.
