Elderly Man Arrested for Possession of Crack Cocaine in Cumby

Ronald Lamel Cokefield

On March 11, 2024, a routine traffic stop in Cumby led to the arrest of a 61-year-old man from Dallas for possession of crack cocaine.

A GMC Envoy was pulled over by a Cumby Police Officer due to an expired registration. Upon contacting the driver, identified as Ronald Lamel Cokefield, officers developed reasonable suspicion, prompting them to request consent to search the vehicle for contraband.

During the search, law enforcement officers discovered a small clear bag containing approximately 3.003 grams of crack cocaine in the overhead compartment. Cokefield admitted to the substance being crack cocaine, which was subsequently confirmed by a field test. Additionally, various items of drug paraphernalia were found scattered throughout the vehicle.

Following the discovery, Cokefield was taken into custody without incident and transported to Hopkins County Jail. He was booked on charges of possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 1, in the range of more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams (F3).
