Super Tuesday: Brent Money Wins District 2, Runoffs in Northeast Texas Primaries

On Super Tuesday, in House District 2 covering most of Hunt and Collin counties, Brent Money secured victory over Jill Dutton, garnering just under 57 percent of the vote. Money will become the nominee for the seat previously held by Bryan Slaton, who vacated it last year.

Dutton had defeated Money in a special election held in January to fill the vacancy left by Slaton, but the competition persisted leading up to the primary.

In two Northeast Texas Republican primaries, runoffs are imminent. In the Texas House 1st District, encompassing Lamar County, incumbent Gary Vandeaver captured roughly 45.5 percent of the vote, necessitating a runoff against Chris Spencer, who secured slightly over 43 percent. Meanwhile, in Rockwall County, challenger Katrine Pierson and incumbent Justin Holland both garnered about 39 percent of the vote. Pierson, with a narrow lead of 161 votes, emerged ahead in the three-candidate race for the Texas House 33rd District nomination.

Several other Northeast Texas Republican incumbents celebrated victories, including Keith Bell in the 4th District, Cole Hefner in the 5th District, Jeff Leach in the 67th District, and Candy Noble in the 89th District.

For the State Board of Education, Republican incumbent Pam Little is set to face Jamie Kohlmann in a runoff election. The runoffs are scheduled for Tuesday, May 28th.
