Drug Bust Near Park: Cumby Man Arrested for Possession in Drug-Free Zone

Jesse Nolan Jones

Cumby Police Department received a concerning call on Sunday, March 3rd, just before 4:00 P.M., regarding an unconscious male in his truck parked at the Family Dollar in Cumby. Identified as Jesse Jones, the man was found lying in vomit with his truck engine off. Police attempted to awaken him and discovered a clear plastic bag filled with green pills, suspected to be Xanax, in plain sight on the driver's side floorboard.

Upon regaining consciousness, Jones complied with officers' requests to exit his vehicle. While waiting for medical assistance, officers requested and obtained permission to search the truck. This search revealed a bag containing approximately 0.7 grams of suspected heroin, another containing about 1.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and the previously mentioned bag of green pills, totaling approximately 6.8 grams of what is believed to be Xanax.

The incident occurred near a park equipped with functioning amenities, leading to elevated charges including violation of a drug-free zone. Jones confessed to being under the influence of heroin at the time.

Jesse Nolan Jones, 29, of Cumby, Texas, was subsequently booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center on charges including possession of controlled substances within a drug-free zone.
