Elderly Commerce Man Arrested for Drug Dealing in Hunt County

In February 2024, the Hunt County Special Crimes unit initiated an investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine in the Commerce, TX area. Following leads, investigators pinpointed an address in the 400 block of McWhiter Dr. as central to their inquiry. Occupants of the residence, identified as brothers 70-year-old Randy Lee Davenport and Michael Davenport, were identified as midlevel suppliers of methamphetamine.

Further investigation revealed that methamphetamine was also being sold from a game room at 2206A Live Oak Street, supplied by the Davenport brothers.

On February 28, 2024, a search warrant was executed at the Live Oak Street game room, resulting in the seizure of approximately 52 grams of methamphetamine, along with packaging materials, a digital scale, and a firearm.

Concurrently, surveillance on the Davenport residence indicated suspicious activity consistent with drug trafficking. A subsequent traffic stop on a vehicle leaving the Davenport residence led to the discovery of approximately 135 grams of methamphetamine in possession of Zachary Baker from Denton, TX.

During this time, Randy Davenport was observed leaving his residence and heading to the game room. Upon his arrival, he was found in possession of drug paraphernalia and a digital scale, leading to his arrest.

A second search warrant was executed at the Davenport residence on McWhiter Dr., resulting in the discovery of approximately 575 grams of methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a drug ledger, digital scales, and currency.

In total, 762 grams of methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, and one firearm were seized as evidence. Randy Davenport was arrested for manufacturing or distributing controlled substances in Penalty Group 1, with additional charges pending further investigation. Zachary Baker was arrested for manufacturing or distributing controlled substances in Penalty Group 1, with his bond set at $200,000. Randy Davenport's bond was set at $300,000.
