Sulphur Springs Police responded to an assault report on Thursday, February 29th, 2024.
The victim, who sustained visible injuries including a swollen eye and cuts, alleged that their son had attacked them while they were in bed. Bloodstains found in the bed supported the victim's account. The suspect, identified as 57-year-old Reginald Harold Childs, arrived at the scene with blood on his clothing and no apparent injuries.
Authorities charged Childs with assault causing bodily harm to a family member, specifically his elderly father, under Texas Penal Code 22.04(a)(3), a third-degree felony. Following his arrest, Childs was transported to Hopkins County Jail without resistance.
Additionally, Childs faced a charge related to not wearing a seat belt.
