Commerce ISD Police Department responded to a report on February 28, 2024, regarding a potential weapon in a student's backpack at A.C. Williams Elementary School.
Officers identified the student and confiscated the backpack, discovering an airsoft replica pistol inside. The pistol was equipped with orange markings indicating it was a fake or replica. Fortunately, there were no active threats made towards any staff or students during the incident.
"While it was determined to be a replica weapon, we want to assure everyone that safety and security remain our top priorities at Commerce Independent School District Police Department," stated a news release.
The situation was efficiently handled by the assigned campus officer. Due to the student's age, no criminal charges will be filed, and no further details will be disclosed.
