Paris City Council: Five Candidates Vie for Four Seats in Upcoming Election

Five candidates have officially thrown their hats into the ring for the upcoming Paris City Council election, vying for four available seats. The filing period, which closed at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, saw District Two emerge as the only contested race, where incumbent Mayor Reginald B. Hughes faces a challenge from Kelvin Hicks.

City Clerk Janice Ellis conducted a drawing for ballot position on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 9 a.m., determining that Hicks will appear first on the ballot, followed by Hughes.

In districts one, three, and six, the election is expected to be canceled at the regular meeting of the Paris City Council on Monday, Feb. 26, as candidates in those areas remain uncontested. Incumbents Shatara Moore and Gary Savage seek to retain their seats in Districts One and Three, respectively. Alix Putnam is unopposed for the District Six position, as current council member Clayton Pilgrim is ineligible for re-election due to term limits after completing his third consecutive two-year term in May.
