DWI Arrest Made After Hit-and-Run Crash in Sulphur Springs

Martin Joseph Yosten

On Monday, February 19th, Sulphur Springs Police Officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Gilmer and Hinnant. Following the incident, 62-year-old Martin Joseph Yosten reportedly fled the scene. However, officers conducted an investigative stop on his Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Upon approaching the driver (Yosten), officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on the individual's breath. Further inspection revealed an open container inside the vehicle, and Yosten  admitted to consuming alcohol.

Officers offered Yosten the opportunity to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), which he declined. As a result, Yosten was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and was presented with a DIC-24 form. Following this, he consented to a blood draw at a local hospital. After the blood draw procedure, Yosten was transported to Hopkins County Jail. Records show that this would be his third DWI charge.
