Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest for Drug and Weapon Possession in Hopkins County

Kevin Wade McPherson

Hopkins County Sheriff's Deputies conducted a routine traffic stop on Sunday, February 18, 2024, after spotting a Ford F-150 pickup truck without a front license plate. During the stop, deputies encountered 38-year-old Kevin Wade McPherson, the driver of the vehicle, and noticed a pistol in the driver's door panel. Concerned for their safety, deputies asked McPherson to step out of the vehicle, and he was subsequently detained in handcuffs.

McPherson disclosed the presence of marijuana in the vehicle, leading deputies to conduct a search. They discovered approximately .32 ounces of marijuana inside. The pistol found in the door panel was also retrieved and checked for legality.

Following the discovery, McPherson was informed of his rights and taken into custody. He was then transported to the Hopkins County Jail, where he was booked on charges including possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain financial responsibilities, possession of marijuana under 2 ounces, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
