Sulphur Springs Police responded to a local retailer on Broadway on Friday afternoon after asset protection officers detained a suspect for theft. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Mitchelle Remon Williamson, was accused of stealing merchandise worth $169.75 by bypassing the last point of sale without paying.
Upon further investigation, SSPD discovered a firearm on Williamson's person during a search. The firearm was seized as evidence, leading to a misdemeanor charge of Unlawful Carry of a Firearm. Williamson was arrested and taken to Hopkins County Jail.
During the booking process, a subsequent search revealed a clear plastic baggie containing methamphetamine and 28 cards, debit cards, and ID cards not belonging to Williamson. As a result, Williamson faces two additional felony charges: Possession of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1/1B >=1G<4G) and Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information.
