Early Sunday morning, February 11th, around 1 A.M., Deputy Shelton of the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on FM 269 S at County Road 2420 in Pickton.
Upon arrival, the deputy found a white Ford Ranger parked in the travel lane, facing Northbound. The driver, identified as Lucio Chavez, seemed unconscious but was awakened by the deputy's approach. Chavez admitted to consuming alcohol with friends and exhibited signs of intoxication, such as glassy eyes and unsteady movements.
Following Chavez's arrest, a thorough search of the vehicle revealed three small bags in the center console. Two bags contained methamphetamine, and the third contained cocaine. Chavez's vehicle was impounded, and he was taken to Hopkins County Jail.
Lucio Chavez, aged 76 and from Winnsboro, Texas, was booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center on charges of possession of controlled substances (methamphetamine and cocaine) and public intoxication.
