Sulphur Springs Police Officers responded to a theft report at Walmart on Thursday. Dispatch informed officers that the suspects had left the store in a blue Jeep. Shortly after, officers stopped a vehicle matching the description provided by Walmart staff.
Upon inspection, stolen merchandise was found inside the vehicle. The Sulphur Springs Police Department (SSPD) made contact with Walmart's asset protection team, who indicated that the suspects had passed the last point of sale without paying for the items. Following an investigation, it was determined that individuals identified as Talaila Shannea Shavers and Zykeirra Alexis Colbert had knowingly and unlawfully taken merchandise with the intent to not pay.
Walmart staff estimated the total value of the stolen items taken by Shavers and Colbert to be $142.03. Both individuals were placed under arrest, secured with double locking handcuffs, and transported to the Hopkins County jail without incident.
The arrested individuals, Shavers and Colbert, have been charged with theft of property valued between $100 and $750. Shavers had previously been arrested in Hopkins County in February 2023, facing charges of felony assault of a public servant, resisting arrest, and evading arrest. Both Shavers and Colbert graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 2023.
