Hit-and-Run Driver Apprehended After Sulphur Springs Police Trace Trail of Damage to Arrest Location

Bruce Kenton Jeffers

Sulphur Springs Police Officers responded to a major crash at the intersection of Hillcrest Dr N and Airport Rd. The involved vehicle fled the scene heading west on Airport Rd. Despite the absence of injuries, officers were informed to be on the lookout for a white Ford truck with left-side damage and a flat tire.

Hopkins County Deputies later identified a groove on the road matching a vehicle driven on its rim and traced it to 9642 FM 71 W. Upon arriving at the scene simultaneously, SSPD and Hopkins County Deputies discovered a white Ford truck with left side damage and a visibly worn rim. The driver, Bruce Kenton Jeffers, initially refused to exit his residence but eventually came out after contact was made by phone.

Jeffers was taken into custody, placed in double-locked handcuffs, and transported to the Hopkins County Jail without incident. He was booked for violating Texas Transportation Code 550.022, which pertains to an accident involving damage to a vehicle exceeding $200, classified as a class B misdemeanor.
