Paris High School students Davion Cooper and Colt Ashby achieved recognition at the Fort Worth Ag Mechanics Show, securing the third-place spot with their inventive cellular-triggered hog trap. The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo (FWSSR) Ag Mechanics show, an annual gathering in Fort Worth, attracts students from 4-H and FFA statewide, allowing them to exhibit their projects in various categories.
Cooper and Ashby chose the Wildlife Equipment division, specifically the trap and capture device class, showcasing their cellular-triggered hog trap gate. Their entry not only earned a blue ribbon but also propelled them to the third-place position in their class.
In recognition of their diligent efforts, the duo was rewarded with a range of prizes, including a welding hood, gloves, grinding disks, welding rods, and other consumable shop items. These essential items for welding and metalworking are anticipated to prove valuable for the young winners.
“I am very proud of these two young men,” expressed agriculture mechanics instructor Russell Gibbs. “They worked hard in the shop all year getting things ready for this project and all projects we have worked on. I’m thrilled that all of their hard work paid off. I’m ready to see what they can create next and in the future.”
