On January 24, 2024, Greenville Police Officers responded to a frantic call reporting a burglary in progress at a residence. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, identified as Matthew Robert Gerberich of Greenville, who attempted to flee on foot.
Following a pursuit, officers successfully apprehended Gerberich and took him into custody. Further investigation revealed that Gerberich allegedly intended not only to burglarize the home but also to commit a either a physical or sexual assault on the individual inside.
Gerberich is now facing charges of burglary of habitation with intent to commit another felony, as well as evading arrest or detention. As of now, no bond has been issued in connection with the case.
The investigation is ongoing.
