Current Place 3 Councilman, Oscar Aguilar, has officially filed paperwork for re-election in the upcoming May 4, 2024, Sulphur Springs City Council election. Aguilar, who has been serving on the Council since 2006, previously ran unopposed in 2020 for Place 3.
The May election will see three seats on the ballot: Places 1, 2, and 3. Jay Julian, the current occupant of Place 1, is seeking re-election as his first term is set to expire. Harold Nash, Sr., who has held Place 2 since December 2019, is also vying to retain his seat.
A new contender, Collyn Seth McDaniel, has entered the race for the Place 3 Councilman position. It's worth noting that all places on the Sulphur Springs City Council are "at-large," allowing residents within the city limits who meet the necessary requirements to run for any available position on the ballot. The upcoming election will determine the composition of the Sulphur Springs City Council for the next term.
