Early Voting Underway for Texas House District 2 Special Election

Early voting for the special election in Texas House District 2 is currently underway, commencing yesterday and continuing through Friday. The election day is set for next Tuesday, January 30.

The race features two Republican candidates, Jill Dutton and Brent Money, who emerged as the top finishers in a special election held alongside the general election last November. Money, a Greenville attorney, secured the highest vote share with approximately 32 percent, while Jill Dutton, a Republican activist from Ben Wheeler, received around 25 percent.

The winner of the January special election will become the state representative for House District 2. However, the seat will be up for grabs again later this year, with the Republican Party primary election scheduled for March 5. Both Money and Dutton have filed for this primary election. As no Democrats have filed to run, the winner of the GOP primary is likely to be the presumptive victor in the November general election.

Both Brent Money and Jill Dutton have confirmed their participation in a Meet the Candidates forum hosted by the Hunt County Economic Development Alliance on Wednesday, February 7. The forum is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center in Greenville. Interested attendees can register for the free event at GreenvilleChamber.com.

Texas House of Representatives District 2 encompasses Hopkins, Hunt, and Van Zandt counties.
