Sulphur Springs ISD Board to Discuss New Police Chief, Academic Performance, and $150 Million Bond Proposal

The Sulphur Springs Independent School District (SSISD) Board of Trustees is scheduled to convene for their regular monthly meeting on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 6:00 pm. The meeting will take place in the board room of the Administration Building located at 631 Connally St. in Sulphur Springs.

The agenda for the meeting includes several key items. Firstly, the board will swear in a new police chief. Additionally, there will be a presentation on Academic Performance and a presentation from the Bond Planning Committee.

The Bond Planning Committee has been actively involved in examining the district's needs and formulating a plan for the future, particularly concerning the age of its campuses. After thorough investigation, the committee has identified the most pressing needs for the district, highlighting the necessity to add two new primary campuses and upgrade existing campuses to accommodate more students for those older campuses undergoing refurbishment.

If the committee follows through with this plan, they may propose a bond package of approximately $150 million to the Board of Trustees. However, the ultimate decision on the bond amount to be placed on the upcoming May ballot for voters in the SSISD rests with the seven-member board.
