A Cass County grand jury has decided not to charge the owner of a .22 rifle in connection with the death of a Linden grocery store employee. The incident occurred in September at Crump Food Store, located in the 700 block of West Houston Street.
Larry Lawrence, 39, of Queen City, was placing groceries on the back seat of a vehicle when the tragic incident took place. Lawrence, who was employed at the grocery store, was petting a dog inside the vehicle when the .22 rifle discharged, resulting in his death.
Following a thorough investigation, the grand jury found no wrongdoing by the owners of the rifle. The decision, known as a "no-bill," means that the grand jury determined there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against the rifle owner in connection with Lawrence's death.
The circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge of the rifle and Lawrence's tragic death have been carefully examined by the grand jury, and their conclusion is that no criminal liability is attributed to the owners of the firearm.
