Traffic Stop on IH-30 Leads to Drug Arrest

Edward Lacharles Simmons

In a routine traffic stop on IH-30 near the 114 mile marker, a Cadillac Escalade was pulled over due to a malfunctioning license plate light. The driver, identified as Edward Simmons, exhibited signs of nervousness during the interaction with the officers.

Upon questioning, Simmons admitted to a history of drug distribution but refused consent for a search of his vehicle for narcotics. Deputies then requested the assistance of K-9 Chiv and Cpl. Patterson. During an air sniff around the vehicle, K-9 Chiv alerted to the presence of drugs.

A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle uncovered a black canister containing ecstasy. Simmons was taken into custody and transported to the Hopkins County Jail, while the vehicle was impounded by Bryant's Towing.

The ecstasy found in the vehicle was confirmed through a test kit to be MDMA, with a total approximate weight of 0.04 grams. Simmons has been booked for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 2 <1G.
