Odessa Woman Arrested in Sulphur Springs for Drunk Driving with a 2-year-old Child On Board

Negrin Gretell Suarez

Officers from the Sulphur Springs Police Department responded to a report in the 1100 block of Como Street involving a gray Hyundai Santa Fe. The driver, identified as Negrin Gretell Suarez, was reported to be acting suspiciously, and it was confirmed by employees at the location that she was not employed with their business.

Upon the officers' arrival, Suarez attempted to drive away, prompting a quick response from law enforcement to order her to stop. There was a delay before she finally complied.

During the investigation, officers discovered two open containers of an alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle. Suarez's two-year-old son was found seated in the rear of the car.

Suarez exhibited signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Officers administered standardized field sobriety tests, which she failed. Based on their observations, the officers concluded that Suarez lacked the necessary mental and/or physical faculties required to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Texas.

As a result, Suarez was taken into custody. She was informed about the Statutory warning and asked to provide a blood sample, but she declined. Subsequently, a search warrant was obtained, and she was taken to the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office for the collection of a blood specimen. Further processing took place at CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital, where the search warrant was executed.

The child present in the vehicle was handed over to Child Protective Services. Negrin Gretell Suarez, a 30-year-old resident of Odessa, Texas, was booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center on charges of Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Under 15 Years Old.
