Atmos Energy Prepares for Extreme Winter Weather, Offers Tips for Safety and Energy Conservation

With the imminent arrival of extreme winter weather in the forecast, Atmos Energy is actively monitoring the situation and strategically placing employees across its system to ensure a swift response.

As colder temperatures may impact natural gas usage, Atmos Energy encourages residents to adopt energy-efficient practices. Here are some simple tips to help ensure safety and conserve energy during the winter months:

  1. Avoid using ovens or gas stovetops for heating homes.
  2. Protect natural gas meters by clearing snow and ice with a broom or brush. Never use hard objects to chip away snow. For concerns, contact Atmos Energy’s Emergency Number at 866.322.8667.
  3. Ensure external vents for dryers and other gas equipment remain clear to prevent carbon monoxide buildup. Seek professional advice if unsure about proper venting.
  4. Prevent frozen pipes by leaving faucets running at a trickle, opening cabinet doors, and sealing windows and doors to retain heat.
  5. Save on energy costs by setting thermostats to 68 degrees during the day and 58 degrees when away from home.
  6. In case of a suspected gas leak, immediately call 911 and Atmos Energy's emergency number at 866.322.8667. Evacuate the area safely.

Additional tips and resources can be found on the Storm Center page at atmosenergy.com. While natural gas outages are rare, customers experiencing service issues can contact the 24/7 Atmos Energy emergency line at 866.322.8667.
