High-Speed Motorcycle Chase Ends in Arrest near Commerce

Heath Wayne Phillips

Early Saturday morning, at around 1:00 A.M., Deputy Foley of Hopkins County observed a motorcycle lacking tail lights while patrolling near FM 2653. Deputy Foley initiated a U-turn to stop the 1998 Honda Motorcycle. The rider, identified as 27-year-old Heath Wayne Phillips from Ladonia, refused to comply, initiating a pursuit.

The chase began southbound on FM 2653, then onto Highway 11 West towards Commerce, reaching speeds exceeding 80 MPH. In Commerce, Phillips navigated through city streets in an attempt to escape law enforcement. The pursuit concluded when Phillips collided with a curb, rendering the motorcycle inoperable.

Attempting to flee on foot, Phillips was apprehended by Deputy Foley. He was subsequently taken into custody without further incident. Phillips, now facing charges of evading arrest with a vehicle, was booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center.
