At approximately 7:45 pm on December 26, 2023, emergency services responded to a major car crash at the intersection of Highway 50 and CR 4807, situated between the City of Commerce and the City of Ladonia in Hunt County.
Two vehicles were involved in the collision, resulting in significant damage. One individual was ejected from a vehicle when the car rolled over. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition. One of the drivers fled the scene on foot.
Hunt County EMS, Commerce E-corps, and Commerce Rescue units arrived at the location, with assistance from Wolfe City Fire and Ladonia Fire. In an effort to locate the fleeing driver, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to the scene.
The evading driver, identified as 65-year-old Bob Hal McLeroy of Commerce, was apprehended by DPS Troopers near the intersection of Highway 50 and CR 4810. Subsequent investigations revealed that McLeroy was allegedly driving under the influence (DWI) with an open alcohol container.
McLeroy now faces charges of DWI, accident involving injury, and evading arrest detention.
