In the early hours of Friday, December 15, the Gun Barrel City Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 400 block of Pleasureland Road. At 2:56 am, Gun Barrel City Police Dispatch received information that three residents were trapped inside the fully engulfed house.
Upon arrival, Gun Barrel City Police and Fire Departments, assisted by Mabank, Tool, and Seven Points Fire Departments, as well as Payne Springs Fire Rescue, initiated fire suppression operations. Following the containment of the fire, search and rescue efforts commenced.
Tragically, three residents, including two adults and a child, were found in the front bedroom of the residence. Firefighters, in collaboration with UT Health EMS and Careflite® Ambulance Service, provided immediate care. Two of the residents were transported by ground ambulance to local hospitals, while one was airlifted to Parkland Health Burn Center in Dallas.
One adult and the child succumbed to their injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Henderson County Fire Marshal Office, with assistance from the Gun Barrel City Fire Marshal Office. The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office also provided support. Fortunately, no firefighters sustained injuries during the incident.
Gun Barrel City Fire Chief Joseph Lindaman urged the community to keep the victims, their families, and the first responders affected by the tragedy in their thoughts and prayers. Chief Lindaman expressed gratitude to all agencies that promptly responded to the call for assistance.
