Northeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force Makes Strides in Crime Prevention

In a concerted effort to combat motor vehicle-related crime, the Northeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force (NE TX ATTF) has received additional funding from the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) this year. The grant, covering ten counties across Northeast Texas, has enabled the task force to expand its team with two new detectives—one from the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and another from the New Boston Police Department.

The NE TX ATTF, comprised of investigators from various law enforcement agencies including the Paris Police Department and Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, has reported significant achievements in the first fiscal quarter of this year (September to November). Task Force Investigators played a pivotal role in the recovery of thirty-five motor vehicles, one travel trailer, five trailers, three UTVs/ATVs, seven pieces of heavy equipment/farm equipment, four firearms, and two pieces of miscellaneous property, all reported as stolen. The total estimated value of the recovered stolen property exceeds $1,114,000.00.

During this quarter, Task Force Investigators successfully apprehended six suspects, with additional cases filed through the respective District Attorneys’ Offices. Public cooperation was instrumental in many of these recoveries, with tips leading investigators to seventeen stolen articles, including vehicles and equipment, on a property in Hopkins County.

The NE TX ATTF emphasizes collaboration with local agencies to enhance their collective efforts in curbing motor vehicle-related crimes. As the holiday season approaches, the task force urges the public to take precautions when shopping by securing vehicles and gifts. They recommend placing valuables in the trunk or out of plain sight, emphasizing the importance of locking cars, taking keys, and hiding belongings.

Law enforcement encourages the public to report any suspicious activity to local authorities and reminds citizens that vigilance can play a crucial role in crime prevention. Those with questions or concerns can contact the NE TX ATTF directly at 903-737-4139.
