On November 30, 2023, the West Tawakoni Police Department responded to an in-progress call reporting a break-in at a residence. Upon arrival, officers apprehended Jeffrey Scott Singleton, a resident of West Tawakoni, in connection with the burglary.
Singleton, described as 5'10" and weighing 238 lbs, was taken into custody on charges of burglary habitation with intent for a sex offense. Police officers on the scene believe that Singleton's intent was to sexually assault a woman within the targeted residence.
The charge of burglary habitation is classified as a 2nd-degree felony in Texas, carrying a punishment range of 2-20 years in prison. However, due to the "intent sex offense" aspect of the case, the charge was enhanced to a 1st-degree felony. This elevation increases the potential punishment range to 5-99 years of imprisonment and includes a possible fine of up to $10,000.
Singleton's bail was set at $150,000, and he remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
