The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has recognized Tony Doughty, a truck driver hailing from Greenville, TX, as a TCA Highway Angel for his commendable actions in two separate incidents. Doughty, employed by Woody Bogler Trucking based in Gerald, MO, demonstrated extraordinary courage and selflessness during emergencies on the road.
On November 8, 2023, around 11 a.m., Doughty was traversing I-280 near Toledo, OH, when he witnessed a single-vehicle accident. A red Lincoln SUV lost control, collided with a Jersey barrier, and spun 360 degrees onto the I-280 southbound entrance ramp.
Being a volunteer firefighter, Doughty blocked the left lane to prevent further accidents and assisted the injured driver until emergency services arrived. His quick response and dedication to rendering aid helped ensure the safety of those involved.
A few days later, on November 12, 2023, while driving through Albany, LA, Doughty encountered a grass fire perilously approaching nearby homes. Traffic had slowed, and a police officer on the scene lacked the means to tackle the spreading fire.
Identifying the urgency of the situation, Doughty informed the officer of his firefighting experience and took immediate action. Armed with a fire extinguisher and a leaf blower, he managed to control 95% of the blaze before the fire department arrived.
When questioned about his actions, Doughty humbly stated, "I could’ve just driven on, but I can’t do that—that’s not me. I was just doing what I’m trained to do."
The TCA Highway Angels program, established in August 1997, has recognized nearly 1,300 professional truck drivers for their exemplary kindness, courtesy, and courage while on duty.
