In a somber note to parents, Greenville ISD Superintendent Sharon Boothe addressed the tragic loss of a Greenville High School student who was fatally shot. The student's passing was shared with the school community during the holiday week.
"We extend our thoughts and prayers to the family as we honor their privacy during this time of loss," Superintendent Boothe conveyed in the note. The school district is set to have its crisis counseling team on-site Monday, following the break, to provide support for both students and staff.
Expressing concern for the well-being of the school community, the note urged students and staff to reach out to counselors if they feel the need to talk. In addition, the importance of discussing gun safety with family members was highlighted. The note suggested families take the time to address this critical topic, with additional information on proper weapon storage provided.
The incident is related to the shooting reported in Warren Park, where a 14-year-old male lost his life due to a gunshot wound.
