Greenville Animal Hospital Issues Alert on Rising Canine Respiratory Disease Cases

Greenville Animal Hospital has issued a warning to pet owners in response to a surge in cases of canine respiratory disease in the North Eastern and North Western regions of the United States. Additionally, Zoetis has reported multiple instances of the illness in Eastern Texas. The suspected cause of these cases is viral in nature.

Pet owners are urged to be vigilant and monitor their dogs for symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, nasal and/or eye discharge, as well as lethargy. In the event that any of these signs are observed, pet owners are advised to isolate their dogs and promptly contact Greenville Animal Hospital for assistance.

Protective Measures for Pet Owners:

  1. Vaccinations: Ensure that your dog's Distemper, Bordetella, and Influenza vaccines are up to date.

  2. Communal Water Bowls: Avoid allowing your dog to consume water from shared bowls in places such as dog parks and restaurants.

  3. Limit Contact: Steer clear of any contact between your dog and unfamiliar dogs.

  4. Avoid Sick Dogs: Refrain from allowing your dog to interact with dogs that exhibit any respiratory symptoms.

  5. Keep Sick Dogs Isolated: If your dog becomes ill, contact Greenville Animal Hospital immediately and keep them at home.

The hospital also recommends considering a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test if necessary, as it can help determine the cause of the illness, whether bacterial or viral.

Pet owners are encouraged to follow these precautions to safeguard the health and well-being of their canine companions.
