In a disturbing case, 35-year-old Lajuana Ann Glass of Grand Saline pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of abandonment or endangerment of a child through criminal negligence. Glass, along with her partner, 52-year-old Johnny Michael Moore, was arrested on May 31, 2022, and charged with criminal negligence for endangering a child.
The charges stemmed from an incident in May 2022 when the couple's 14-year-old daughter was found by law enforcement officers riding as a passenger with a male driver. The teenager revealed to the authorities that she had run away from her parents' home due to poor living conditions and the fact that Glass and Moore had introduced her to methamphetamine.
According to an arrest affidavit, the young girl was living with her parents inside a mechanic shop in Smith County. She disclosed that Glass and Moore not only smoked methamphetamine openly in front of her but also provided her with the drug. The affidavit detailed instances where the parents would fight, sometimes physically, creating a hostile environment for the teenager.
The girl's situation came to light when she reported her ordeal to law enforcement officers, expressing fear about returning home. Child Protective Services swiftly intervened, issuing a removal order from her parents and placing her into CPS custody.
Glass, identified as the child’s mother, pleaded guilty to the charges on October 2, 2023. She was subsequently sentenced to 10 months in a state jail facility, as per records from Smith County judicial authorities. Meanwhile, Moore's case is still pending, with a status hearing scheduled for Friday morning in the 114th District Court.
