PARIS, Texas — A man is dead and a state trooper was injured following a confrontation involving a knife that escalated into an officer-involved shooting, authorities said.
The incident began Wednesday, April 8, 2026, when the Paris Police Department received a report of a man brandishing a knife at a citizen in a local parking lot. Officers located the suspect vehicle a short time later and initiated a traffic stop with assistance from a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper.
During the encounter, officials said the driver refused to comply with commands and produced a knife, attacking during the interaction. The assisting DPS trooper was injured.
A Paris police officer then discharged his duty weapon, striking the suspect. Officers immediately rendered aid, and the suspect was transported to Paris Regional Health, where he was later pronounced dead.
The injured trooper was also transported to a hospital, treated, and released.
The Texas Ranger Division is investigating the officer-involved shooting. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
