The Commerce Police Department's K9 officer, Kye, now has added protection thanks to a generous donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. This charitable act has equipped K9 Kye with a bullet and stab protective vest, enhancing his safety on duty.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity with a mission to provide vital protective gear, including vests, to law enforcement dogs and related agencies across the United States. Kye's new protective vest, which is U.S. made, custom-fitted, and NIJ certified, bears the heartfelt sentiment, "Born to Love - Trained to Serve - Loyal Always."
Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has dedicated itself to the well-being of K9 officers, having distributed over 5,289 protective vests to K9s serving in all 50 states, with a total estimated value of $6.9 million. This remarkable achievement has been made possible through the generous contributions of both private individuals and corporations.
The organization's program is open to K9s in the United States that are at least 20 months old, actively employed, and certified to work with law enforcement or related agencies. Even K9s with expired vests are eligible to participate, ensuring that as many working dogs as possible receive the protection they deserve. Currently, there are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s serving throughout the United States.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $985 will sponsor one vest.
