On the 22nd of August, 2023, the collaborative efforts of the North Texas Sheriffs’ Criminal Interdiction Unit, comprising law enforcement agencies from Collin, Grayson, Hunt, Parker, Rockwall, Smith, Tarrant, and Wise counties, led to a significant operation resulting in a major drug seizure and the arrest of an individual. The operation unfolded with a routine traffic stop on US 75 in Collin County.

The driver, identified as Jesus Maldonado Peralta, a resident of Houston, Texas, gave consent for a vehicle search during the investigation. This search yielded a substantial discovery - approximately sixty (60) pounds of methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle.

In light of this discovery, deputies apprehended Peralta at the scene. He now faces charges for the Manufacture or Delivery of Substance in Penalty Group 1, involving a substantial quantity of 400 grams or more. This charge carries significant legal consequences.

At present, Jesus Maldonado Peralta remains confined to the Collin County Detention Facility, with his bail set at $1,250,000.00.

Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner commended the partnership between the North Texas Sheriffs’ Criminal Interdiction Unit and highlighted the operation's success in combating the flow of illicit drugs. He stated, "This strategic partnership between eight North Texas Sheriffs continues the fight against the deadly drug cartels who cross our southern border with impunity and peddle their poisonous fentanyl and methamphetamines across America. The NTXCIU has seized many tons of this poison since its inception and will continue to do so. I’m proud to be partners in this effort with fellow Sheriffs who like us, are absolutely committed to protecting the citizens they serve."
