MARSHALL, Texas - A Daingerfield man convicted of supplying more than a kilogram of methamphetamine to another dealer has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison.
Reco Tyrone Hayes, 51, was sentenced Sept. 28 to 144 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Texas.
A federal jury previously convicted Hayes of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Federal prosecutors said evidence presented in court showed Hayes supplied more than a kilogram of methamphetamine to a street-level dealer who then distributed the drugs.
According to prosecutors, Hayes operated his drug trafficking business from a location in Daingerfield known as "The Compound."
The Texas Department of Public Safety's Criminal Investigations Division and the Daingerfield Police Department investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lucas Machicek and Dustin Farahnak prosecuted the case.
The Justice Department identified the prosecution as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide federal initiative that includes cases involving drug cartels, transnational criminal organizations, violent crime and immigration enforcement.
