At 2:09am on August 21, 2023, the Terrell Fire Department received an emergency call regarding a structure fire in the 600 block of E High Street. The incident escalated swiftly, as responders from Engine 611 arrived to find a single-story structure fully ablaze.
The fire, which had already ventilated itself before the firefighters' arrival, rapidly propagated through the building, necessitating immediate action. Despite initial attempts to mount an offensive approach, changing conditions forced a shift to a defensive strategy in order to ensure the safety of personnel.
Pooling their resources, the Terrell Fire Department, alongside the Forney Fire Department and the Trinity Valley Fire Department (TVFD), engaged in a prolonged and arduous effort to control the blaze. Their tireless work spanned hours, resulting in the successful extinguishing of the fire and the prevention of further damage to the vicinity.
The cause behind the fire remains unresolved, prompting the initiation of an investigation by the Terrell Fire Marshal's Office.
