Teenager Found Unresponsive near Terrell High School Campus, Homicide Investigation Underway

On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 8:12 a.m., Terrell Police responded to a call reporting a male subject lying in a yard near the intersection of Trailview and Town North Dr. The victim, identified as 17-year-old Damaria Jackson, was found non-responsive at the scene. First responders arrived within moments after the initial officer's arrival, administering life-saving measures and treatment.

The location of the incident is approximately one mile from the Terrell High School Campus. Swift communication between Terrell Independent School District (TISD) staff, TISD Police, and Terrell Police assured that there was no imminent safety threat to the campus or its students.

Despite the efforts of first responders, Damaria Jackson's condition did not improve, and he was subsequently transported to Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.

Positive identification of the victim has been established, and notifications have been made to his next of kin. Terrell Police, TISD Police, and Kaufman Constables are currently on the scene, working to secure the area, process evidence, and conduct a thorough canvassing of the vicinity in search of potential leads or witnesses.

During the course of the investigation, law enforcement officials have taken one individual into custody on an unrelated charge, who is now considered a person of interest in connection to the case. A second suspect has also emerged in the ongoing investigation.

UPDATE: A Terrell 16-year-old has been charged with Murder in connection with this offense. After several hours of investigation and interviews enough evidence has been obtained to charge the youth.
