In the early hours of Wednesday, August 16, a tragic incident occurred on the southbound service road in the 2700 block. At approximately 2:30 a.m., a vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with an NTTA (North Texas Tollway Authority) electrical box, subsequently igniting a fire that left the driver trapped inside.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, but tragically, the driver was pronounced deceased upon their arrival. The Plano Police Department's Traffic Unit has taken charge of the investigation into the crash. While the identity of the driver remains undisclosed pending confirmation from the Collin County Medical Examiner's Office, preliminary indications suggest that speed may have played a role in the unfortunate incident.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the crash. As the community mourns this loss, thoughts and condolences are extended to the affected families, witnesses, NTTA, and the dedicated first responders who promptly answered the call for help.
Law enforcement officials are urging all motorists to remain vigilant and adhere to safe driving practices at all times.
