Individual in Rowlett Contacted by Police After Firing Random Shots into the Air

On Sunday, August 13, 2023, at approximately 6:15 p.m., the Rowlett Police Department responded to a call reporting gunshots at Twin Star Park located at 7200 Armstrong Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered expended shell casings at the scene. The individual who reported the incident stated that they witnessed an individual walking between houses, proceeding to the park, where he discharged 2-3 rounds into the air before departing on foot. Fortunately, no harm to individuals or property was reported as a result of these shots. Local resident surveillance footage proved instrumental in identifying the individual in question.

Following his identification, he was contacted and cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation, and confessed to firing the shots into the air. He stated that he had been alone during the incident and emphasized that his actions were not directed at anyone. His full cooperation led to the recovery of the firearm used.

At this point, this is an isolated incident with no known threat to the public and no other suspects are outstanding.

Chief Mike Denning expressed his gratitude and pride over the department and the community's quick actions, stating, “Great job to all our officers and detectives for their unwavering dedication in tracking down the suspect in this case in less than 18 hours. Here in Rowlett, we have zero tolerance for gun-related crimes. I also want to thank our residents for providing tips and information that helped us identify the suspect.”
