A quick response by Mesquite police led to the arrest of a 39-year-old suspect, Zettie Lee Minter, in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at the Town East Mall on August 12, 2023, at approximately 6:46 p.m. Minter is facing charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
According to law enforcement officials, officers were dispatched to the shopping center after multiple 911 callers reported gunshots being fired near the I-635 entrance on the lower level of the mall. The quick and coordinated efforts of the Mesquite Police Department led them to locate and apprehend the suspect, Zettie Minter, who hails from Dallas.
A single victim was injured in the altercation, sustaining a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition. Mesquite police revealed that Minter and the victim were known to each other, and the shooting incident unfolded as a result of an altercation that transpired inside one of the mall's stores.
Authorities have been quick to dispel concerns of an active shooter situation, clarifying that the incident was isolated and did not pose a broader threat to mall patrons and staff.
