CAYUGA, Texas - A Cayuga Middle School student died and two other students were hospitalized following an ATV crash Thursday, according to Cayuga Independent School District.
Superintendent Dr. Joe Satterwhite announced the student's death in a message to the Cayuga ISD community, saying the student died from injuries sustained in a four-wheeler accident on Sept. 3.
The district did not identify the student or provide details about where or how the crash occurred.
Two additional students involved in the crash were hospitalized. Their conditions were not disclosed.
"It is with immense sadness and sorrow in my heart that I share the loss of one of our Cayuga Middle School students," Satterwhite wrote.
Cayuga ISD planned to meet with students and staff Friday to provide information and help them cope with the student's death.
Ministers, professional grief counselors and other support personnel from the Anderson County Special Education Cooperative and mental health service ACCESS were expected to be available to students.
"We walk together as a unified Wildcat family," Satterwhite said. "We are prepared to help uplift each other."
The district said funeral arrangements will be shared through its social media accounts once they have been finalized.
