Paris Police Officers responded to a scene of a vehicular accident at the intersection of Johnson Woods Drive and Hubbard St. in Paris, Texas, where an SUV had collided with a city fire hydrant. The driver, identified as 38-year-old Angella Renee Dean (Hines), was found at the scene with her vehicle.
According to police reports, Dean informed officers that her attention had been diverted by her children inside the vehicle, leading to the collision with the fire hydrant. As officers interacted with Dean, they detected a noticeable odor of what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage on her breath.
Upon further questioning, Dean allegedly confessed to having consumed an alcoholic beverage prior to the accident. Concerns escalated when she reportedly failed to satisfactorily complete several field sobriety tests administered by the responding officers.
Worryingly, it was revealed that Dean had her four children, all under the age of 15, in the vehicle with her at the time of the incident. Thankfully, none of the children sustained any injuries during the collision.
In light of the evidence and her performance on the field sobriety tests, Dean was placed under arrest on charges of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) with a child under 15 years of age in the vehicle, a serious offense under Texas law.
